Americans have several traditions centered around what they eat on New Years Day. Many of us feel taking part in these traditions will insure good luck, prosperity, and a cleaning of the slate for the coming year. Pork is believed to symbolize moving forward. Eating black eyed peas on New Years Day is supposed to bring you good fortune.
